Electric Vehicle Charge Point Installation

EVCP Home Charging Options

The government has now brought forward its intention to end the sale of new combustion engine-powered cars and vans to 2035.Currently electric vehicles account for a small proportion of car sales but there growth rates are soaring. However they need to be charged either at a public chargepoint , your workplace or perhaps more conveniently at your home. This increased demand on our electricity grid system means that any solution should be configured, documented and safely installed. An EV home charge point can use the equivalent power of an electric shower for upto 8 hours.

We have selected manufacturers that supply & support safe, reliable  EV Charge Points (EVCP). We have been educated and approved by them to ensure that once the unit is installed their 3 year support warranty comes into effect giving you piece of mind. Each  installed unit supports solar installations,  is a 7kW charge point, can be controlled by an App and protects your house main fuse from overload.

FAQ about the service

We will check that the electrical installation is safe to add an EV Charge Point. This includes the earthing and bonding arrangements. If the incoming supply visually appears to have some issue we can advise. We will discuss where you would like the EVCP installed and check the wi-fi connection.

It is a requirement to inform your local Distributor Network Operator (DNO) that you wish to add an EVCP to their network. We take care of this  and using the EV Charge Points we install ensures that process is straightforward.

We have the necessary qualifications and experience to install your charge point safely. We are approved under the Government Office of Zero Emissions Vehicles to install EVCP having completed the required education . We are audited each year by our friendly NICEIC area engineer.

The charge points above provide 7kWatts or 32 amps current to charge your car. This means from flat you can charge a car in about 8 hours (depending upon car/battery). If you have a hybrid car with a smaller battery you might chose to use a dedicated 10amp socket instead. This is the slower Mode 2 method of charging

As part of the installation process we will register the product with the manufacturer and get you setup on their app. Once registered the manufacture will provide ongoing support both hardware & software for the unit for 3 years (subject to their warranty terms).

What are the Modes of EV home charging ?

For home electric charge points there are 2 mainstream charging technologies either Mode 2 or Mode 3 charging. Put simply Mode 2 charging is a dedicated circuit with a 13amp socket whereas Mode 3 uses a dedicated Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE). The actual charger is in the car not the device on the wall

The bigger your car’s battery and the slower the charging point (number of amps ), the longer it takes to charge from empty to full. Charge your electric car at home as often you need to in line with manufacturers guidelines. Even regard it as charging a mobile phone, fully charging overnight and topping up in the day if necessary . A. Click on manufacturers names above to download their datasheets.
